st1000dm003 no spin
fw: cc41
Hdd failed after power outage. Now hdd will not spin but the pcb seems electrically intact. zener diode and fusible resistors all tested fine ad 1.8volts at eeprom pin8
I have attached the eeprom dump if someone can examine the eeprom file and check for errors. Thank you

I have repaired your original ROM. The flipped bit was in a compressed section (CPRS) of the first BOOTFW segment. Hopefully that's it.

Will also try this one when im back to workshop tomorrow. But if i may ask, what causes the flipped bits? There was just a power outage and no firmware update whatsoever.

At power-on, the ROM segments are unpacked into RAM, and the drive then transfers control to RAM. The MCU does not refer to the ROM again until the next power cycle. It could be that one of the bits leaked its charge while the drive was running. This did not affect the code in the RAM, so you would have been unaware of this problem until you tried to repower the drive. I doubt that the power outage had any effect on the ROM.

This firmware did not make the hdd spin. Thanks for the effort.

Thanks for the response. Now I'll know that the second copy of BOOTFW doesn't work.
And Frank is a wizard.

Good luck.
