Question format hdd for archiving

I have two used 2.5" 1TB HDDs (buy Aliexpress) and two new 2.5" 500GB HDDs inside a USB 3.0 case. I intend to delete 250GB and replace them with new, updated files. Do you recommend re-formatting them in a new format that prevents data loss and corruption and is highly compatible with Windows, or is this unnecessary and causes wear and tear on the drive? They are currently in exFAT and NTFS.

There is no "best" format. How should that help if disk/hardware is toast? How should that help if your used OS can't read/write this "best" format if that would exist?

Disks die sooner or later unpredicted and it can happen in a second.

Backup your stuff, multiple times, simple as that.

I suggest you stop responding to posts from sonicmario. He keeps repeating the same two topics on multiple forums, even though we keep providing the same answers.

I believe it is some kind of bot. I have been unable to figure out what or why. There seems no purpose to it. I went down the rabbit hole a few months back and tracked quite a lot of posts and usernames over different forums. I couldn't find really any worthwhile reason, even any type of revenge that would account for this behavior.

I did find out about a few other bots during that time, and some of them were post number farming, and some were veiled advertising. This is different.

sonicmario is probably rather sick and does not understand advice.
He once showed/linked his purchases. the HDDs were located in a plastic enclosure.
So far he has not done anything to reduce the risk by using a metal enclosure.

If he is living in Brazil p.e. he will face the threat of a tight temperature window.

He expects advice to mitigate the disadvantage of running used/refurbished disks.
He wants to pay pennies on what rather costs a dime and expects to compensate the likelyhood of a failure by getting assumably good advice as if some wonder file system could reduce the risk of disk failure.
