Hello,
I have one- Western Digital 2TB My Pasport Ultra HDD which has Wd20NMVW inside, Due to some usb malfunction on my PC the drive has now stopped working. when i connect to ANY PC it will not show up in BIOS. Just the front led lights up and HDD gets warm. I want to recover data from this Drive.
I saw some similar drive available on ebay, can i buy those drive swap the PCB, change HDD BIOS from olde drive to new pcb )and try to start the drive ? any other options > please guide.

No it does not.

there were some posts by Fzabkar about these pcbs having a fuse prone to fail open...
Check that first...

The Original PCB had a crack in it, The drive was not working earlier too. I changed the PCB and did the BIOS swap. Now i see this

what do you see? I don't see an image. I'm dealing with the same thing with my 4TB WD drive. I've tried following fzabkar's

then it might be head sticktion or spindle seizure, can you hear any faint ticking when attached to power?

hope your using a clean room as dust is bad for hard disks
