WD DC HC320 with very low usable capacity

May 19th, 2026, 13:06

Hello together,

I got from my company for free an old WD DC HC320 drive (HGST HUS728T8TALE6L4) from an Enterprise NAS system.

The drive is running and reported in Windows 11 1.3TB. But native that is a 8TB drive. Therefore I have tried to clean the hdd with diskpart - without changes. There are no special hiding partitions. Now I'm no more sure if I can use the drive for my personal case.

Is there any chance to change the capacity or in case of a drive limitation to flash it with a consumer firmware?

Thanks for your support!
