WD42PURZ error 4F10

Hello. I have two WD42PURZ drives with defects that need to be hidden; however, current software versions identify the family as "03C1 Unknown," so I assume the drive family is not supported by the programs I have. It fails to read the service area (error 4F10), including the defect lists. How can I resolve this issue? Thank you.

In windows 11 you can use CHKDSK

CHKDSK /R

will read every sector and map them out as errors are found

another more aggressive approach is to use Seatools 5 and use the erase disk function which will allow the disk to map out pending sector issues etc but be wary to clear off the disk first before using Seatools 5
