Some tip when working with MPG

Ok let's keep this english forum useful.

So you have that troublesome mpg (in this case 3204AT-E), it is just a bit
more firmware fked than the easy ones.

So in this case you have SI, 09, 27, 31, 32, 50, 51, 52 & 70 not reporting as they should.

Also in this case you are told that there is an error in ROM when starting.

Maybe the ROM is perfect and going here, especially with this drive,
could reveal the crocodiles in a crystal clear swamp -
or as somebody beautifully put it -
you tried to do a heart swop when the patient only had a sneeze !
and killed the patient forever.

So here is the tip - fix just SI - nothing else - ROM fixed ??

Very Important with this drive : Why ? ......
This should only be done with Native PCB ...... figure it out...

So if people are exchanging tips, here is mine:

Sometimes when fujitsu won't spindle at all and you change the pcb with a close match (even a perfect match) but drive starts to spin is not being detected or produce the famous "clacking sound", this cab be caused by rom adaptives. Try to access the bad pcb in kernel mode, extract the rom and write it in the working pcb. This method worked for me a couple of times :)
(and can also work when the working pcb ISN'T a perfect match)

so you read the ROM of a bad pcb in kernel mode. ??
mmmmm, so far I cannot do this with a bad pcb.

I have had bad ROM on pcb which have re-written, but never read a bad pcb.

Off course it depends on how bad is the pcb. I had sucess in reading the flash rom in pcbs that were not starting the spindle motor anymore ... (I assume you know how to set pcb in kernel mode)

If flash rom reading in kernel mode is impossible, there is always the external eprom reader or the "soldering-the-bad-chip-in-a-good-pcb" option :wink:
