Hello Everyone!
I need to clear smart for this Hard drive using WD Marvel Utility! I tried but the utility throws error for all operations including clear smart operation. Could someone help me on this. BTW the drive's health is 99% on HDSentinel and shows caution on Crystal Disk Info!

WD Marvel is rather bug riddled

I use Seatools 5 and I suggest using that to zero wipe the disk and that should make the disk safe for use

Upload a smart screenshot to the forum. Most likely there is either a reassigned sector that cannot be removed with a SMART reset, or one that is waiting to be moved - just find it by scanning the surface in Victoria and erase it. You can also simply continue to use the hard drive; the place with the problem sector will sooner or later be overwritten with a new file, and the problem will go away.

P.S. Never, under any temptation, play with utilities like WDMarvel on hard drives where important data is stored. You will definitely find big problems for yourself, don’t ask how I know this.

This hard drive is in perfect order, it does not need a smart reset (which will not help) or any action at all, including with WDMarvel. It only has one unreadable sector, which can be safely ignored.

If you absolutely need to get rid of this sector, there are 3 options:

1) CCleaner utility, “wipe hard drive” option. In it, you can choose to clear only unallocated space, which will also clear the file system of records of long-deleted files. If the bad sector is located where file system structures are stored, this will help get rid of it safely.

2) 7-zip utility, install it on your computer and select all the files on this hard drive, run a checksum check (opens in the context menu by clicking the right button). If a bad sector is located in one of the files, the utility will report this at the bottom of the window with a progress bar. The file will have to be copied to another location using a utility such as nonstopcopy, and then safely erased using the same CCleaner. The bad sector will then disappear.

3) Victoria HDD utility. Just start scanning the surface; sooner or later a single error will appear at the bottom of the window with the address of the damaged sector. Remember this address, at the top of the window there is a choice of the start and end sectors to check. Regarding the address of the damaged sector, select addresses somewhere 20,000 less and more, and switch the scanning mode to checking one sector at a time (option “block size” = 1). Run the scan again, you will now receive the exact address of the bad sector, and then enter it into the starting and ending position of the scan. The operating system will not allow you to erase a sector; I will not tell you how to get around this, because this will most likely lead to data loss.

All these actions are unnecessary, and possibly harmful, since they load the hard drive with constant reading. Just ignore this bad sector, it is not a failure, the hard drive does not need to be replaced or repaired.
