Calypso 80G - help needed

June 13th, 2005, 15:25

Hello

The patient is Maxtor 6y080l0.

It detects fine, scanning with mhdd works ok, there were some bad sectors but fixed with erase waits.

When hard drive is either IDLE or accesing SERVICE ZONE it dies for 5-6 seconds without entering busy, it just begins making an unusual noise (friction type), then it clicks and continues operation normally.

I created loader from it and than i put it to safe mode and loaded loader and it clicks several times then ready. Modules read and checksum ok.

Please advise me on how to pursue repair.

Maybe one of the head works unstable.

I encountered the problem also, and found it difficult to repair.
I'm afraid the one of the head is working unstable.
