Majority of Quantum AS we get have media damage... it seems that these drives have very bad media. Surface is degrading a lot out after a while...

Hi,
AFAIK AS drives store 10G per side, so I don't see a reason how a one headed AS drive could be of 20G capacity.
Does anybody know a solution for that?

Hi Pepe,
If you look at ACE documentation
As 10GB - 1 plate One head;
20GB -1plate 2 head;
30GB - 2paltes 3heads....
But at my work I often meet drives that differ form explanation given us form ACE. Probably this is some kind of market trick or maybe model that was produced in less quantity or not enought spread in Eu. Who knows
20GB could be 30 or 40GB actually and 200Gb calypso could be 250GB :o

I also have many Fireball AS 20Gb one-headed here in Brazil ...

:oops:

Sorry, I have never seen a drive like that before :)
But now I believe there are such drives.
And in AS' manual there is explicitly stated: 1 head - 10G, 2 heads - 20G...
