WD HDD wont boot unless there's a slave..

August 13th, 2005, 13:44

Has anyone run across this problem?

I've got a 250GB WD HDD. If I set it as the master on the IDE chan and do NOT have a slave drive set up I can't boot to the master. It is detected by the BIOS, but no boot device is found. Once I put a drive on as the slave it boots fine...

*Here's the REALLY odd part... if I have it as the only drive (master) on the chan. and leave a bootable CD in the tray it, and just bypass the bootable cd, it will boot from the hard drive. The CDRW does NOT need to be on the same IDE chan as the HDD

It's a little odd, but ya'll are smart.

Western Digital .. ...

I have now in my hands a WD400EB-75CPF0 to recover data from if i setup jumper like master , its detect by BIOS by hang after start and no start. if i select slave can start, and Windows XP can be recognize this hard disk and the partition the only problem its this hard disk have 2 partitions and i can see only one partition. so i first use pc3000 at with universal utility and show me time exceede to read ... so i use WD Protege Series , in standart mode, in safe mode the PCB no says any error in standard mode hang when try to read . so i used Data extractor, to extract data, but when its reading passport, after many minutes, its able to access the two partition but when i select one of them to recovery hang completally. I try many times. So i use Media Tools to access and i be able to access and with File recovery Tree, be able to extract data, but now, when iam checking the recovery data, the files are damaged, for example a mdb file access data base file. in the first code, the header says Microsoft Jet Database. blabla. je but later says "unredeable"unredeable"

What do u thinks guys
any way?

Thanks for all u help :o

Thanks for the info, I'll take a look at my jumper settings. If it's only a jumper i'm going to feel really stupid and have to retire. :o
