Toshiba MK6022GAX only reads errors

August 15th, 2005, 16:56

I have a toshiba MK6022GAX laptop drive that is only reading errors in all low-level cloning programs I use. Mechanically the drive is perfect. Heads spin and sweep and drive comes ready. I ordered identical parts. Same model, rev, and firmware. Windows and Linux based tools do nothing. Here is what I have done so far

1. Checked for hard drive password and there was none.
2. Board swap... (I know board swapping toshibas is not a good thing)
3. Head swap... (Drive does the same thing with a new set of heads)
4. Hot swap... (did not work... of course)

I am pretty sure it is a firmware failure (ie. Smart Table, P & G list, Failed translator).

Any Ideas. :?
Thanks
