WD pcba Chips ????

Does anyone know about the specific chips on the pcba of WD drives. I have got one with a fried chip on it and sourcing parts for this is HARD.

I wondered if the chip could be replaced from another drive in the family, but i guess it does depend on what exactly the chip does.

Is there a white paper on the pcba or does anyone know what the specific chips do ???

its more likely be the controller chip burnt out on the board
if you can find a controller chip same model
but diffrent firmware just unsolder the chip and put yours on it

How simple is a chip replacement procedure ??? what equipment do you need ? ?

FRIEND CHIP REPLACEMENT IS NOT A SIMPLE PROCEDURE.....
IT NEED EXPERTISE IN SOLDERING-DESOLDERING OF CHIP....
ALSO NEED SOME SOLDERING DESOLDERING EQUIPMENTS....(LIKE HOT GUN,SOLDERING STATION ETC.)

That was what i thought, however i did think that you could buy specific solder stations for this sort of work.

Find the same chip in another hard disk pcb, replace it and that's all. Once a client came to me with this wd model to recover the info, I just went to some cell phone repair guy who did the soldering for me and the info was recovered. The client gave me the disk and is still working, is useful to backup even if is terribly slow.

this one need technic for de/soldering... U can use Hot gun and soldering station.... iBut there is still others way to do that for your friend... If you have the Rom contents backed-up.. then you can write it to the donor PCBA.. but some of ROM Chipset in WD can not be writen.. if this happened.. you must desolder/soldering it to donor PCB. there is the only way...
