Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi!
My Maxtor S-ATA 120 GB HDD crashed this weekend, WinXP wont boot (error:: unmountable_boot_volume).
With the Ultimate Boot CD I used the MHDD tool and scanned the drive. It shows a lot of red Xs and full red sectors. So I guess there is a major hardware problem.
How can I at least recover some of the files without risking to destroy even more data (like using erase WAITS with MHDD)?
There are 60 GB of music on the 2nd partition I really dont want to lose...
Thanks in advance for your help!!
Daniel

According to your description I think your H.D.D has a firmware problem. You can’t repair or recovery your files by general software. If you want you can send your information to my mail address (
mehran@ihddc.net) that I can introduction a recovery center that will help you.
