MK4025GAS

February 20th, 2006, 1:54

Hi,

this drive is an MK4025GAS. It clicks but not that regular clicking as if it had a bad head, but hits the limiter bumper really hard, like a hammer.
I changed the board from the same model, but another FW version (I didn't expect too much : ), now it has the regular clicking sound.
If I put the patient board onto the donor, the same symptoms arise, regular clicking sound.
does anybody had similar problem?

PCBs on Toshiba drives are not interchangeable.

The firmware or the heads could be at fault or even the spindle (very common in these drives).

Hello,

thanx for the reply!
I know that, I exchanged the external flash rom of course.
But let's forget about board replacement, the main problem is the inregular hard knocking.
thanx for any help.

Hi,

If you are still getting knocking from the drive and there is no platter damage I would presume that a head change is in order.
