What is the most common WD400bb failure?

March 21st, 2006, 9:39

I have seen many clicking WD400bb. Is this most likely a PCB rom issue or heads (preamplifier) or firmware problem?

thanks

Hello, there can be various sources of clicking.

it is quite rare that Rom gets damaged by itself.
The most of the clicking is caused by head defect, sometimes preamp and sometimes other kind of pcb problem I haven't diagnosed yet, since I was only interested in recovering the data, and this could be achieved using a donor PCB.
