Help me on a SEAGATE ST3120026AS

April 4th, 2006, 20:29

Hello Guys..

And i greeting you for this usefull forum ! thanx !

I have a SEAGATE ST3120026AS that have some problems (I think it´s only "bad sectors" or something like that)

BIOS and WinXP identifies him 100%.
I can copy files to/from him.
But some files after i try to copy FROM...get damaged..

I do not have to save any data from him.
It´s my only backup and TEMP HD.

What I do:
- First I use HDD REGENERATOR 1.51.
The software appear to "save" the bad blocks.
I reformatted him and run the Disk Diag from Seagate.
The SMART problem disappear (in the Short Test at least)
So.. i think it´s resolve my problem..

But... i tried do use MHDD to do a "check".

First i do a SCAN...and appear many RED and BROWN blocks.
So i follow the FAQ and after i did a SCAN + ERASE. (The RED ones dissapear ! :D but...there´s some BROWN yet..)

My questions:

- Do I have to do a SCAN + REMAP option ?
- Is there problem to let these "BROWN" alone ?
- I have to "run" another thing after that ? (other options..)
The Manual / FAQ dont explain too much about that...

I know..I know..my HD maybe is close to the "end".
But i will try to use him (for Temp , Emule Temp etc)
Thnx for all !
