Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

My hard drive died today taking with it my doctoral thesis. Naturally I can't even begin to pay the cost of data recovery. The drive doesn't seem to power up (I don't hear the motor), although there is a blinking light on the board side. Does anyone know if this drive is a good candidate for a board swap and how to go about identifying a good matching drive?
Thank you all for your help.

Yes. go for it.
I'd replace it with the same model's pcb...
