What is the best way to manage this Toshiba MK6021GAS ?

Hi,

I have on an old laptop a 60 Gb in very bad mood. I scan the surface and found a lot of bad sector after LBA 111400000. I assume a head crash occured. The smart Status is failed, but because of the high number of bad sector.
But beside that, it is ok.

I would like to recycle this drive on a mp3 reader, wich is more or less equivalent to a USB2 hd enclosure.

I tried to HPA so keep the first 55 Gb, where there is no bad sector, it looks a good way, but how to make the smart status to go back from failed status ? Maybe this is not possible, so how to disable smart on this drive ? The only program I found to accept to do that was hutil from samsung, but when trying to apply that, it crash and go back to dos (How could I be more unlucky here ?)

So my questions are:

Is it possible to remove all the bad sector ? Is there some kind of black list mecanism for that ?
Can I remove smart failed status, or how can I disable smart on the drive ?

To disable SMART:
1. Run mhdd
2. type: SMART OFF
3. Press enter.

If that won't help, then:
1. Run MHDD
2. Type: Config
3. Answer "Y" when it asks you "would you like to disable smart?"

Hi Maysoft,

I allready tried the Config command, but it does not work on this drive :(

Anyway I'll try "smart off", I haven't notice it before !

Many thanks !!!
