tagged defect sectors

Hi everybody,
My chief asked me about the different means to make data on HDD unaccessible.
I answered that HPA and DCO were both available on recent HDDs, but then I wondered if it could be possible to tag some sectors as defect ones in order to hide data.
If it's possible, that would imply that the Glist can be modified... and that data from a repaired sector can be recovered...
it sounds like a bit improbable....
everybody agree with me?

It is not improbable at all.
The company I am contracted to have done just this and will soon be presenting software that allows for just this.
Difficult to manage unless you are comfortable with defect management.

Why not hide the data in unused areas of the SA?

hum, good idea BUT...
the question remains, how Service Area can be managed without PC3000?... (and I will not have it before few month)
In reference to my first topic, if I could manage G-lists, so I could artificially tag some sectors as defected too, and I did not ask for your help...
Secondly, I think some unused areas of the SA are maybe reserved for G-List, which grows all along the HDD life... so I want to say that unused area can become used...
