Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hello, all. I am new to these forums and am curious if anyone knows anything about the 1.8" series of hard drives manufactured by Toshiba (MK1504GAL, MK2004GAL, MK2006GAL, MK3006GAL, MK4004GAH, MK6006GAH, etc), such as the Apple-branded iPod HDDs.
I have used the search engine and can only find one document mentioning iPod drives in Russian.
Do these Apple drives have special firmware?
I know these drives support ATA command sets, and can be hooked up to a standard P-ATA connector with an adapter and worked on with MHDD.
What tools does one use to clear the defect tables (G-list? / P-list?) or reflash the firmware on these drives? I noticed that neither PC3000 nor SalvationData mentions support for Toshiba Hard Drives.
Are there any tools freely available?
Thanks in advance for any information.

They're also used in Toshiba Portege R100 laptop.
I've used MK6006GAH with Apple part number 655-1193B in this laptop without any problems.
