Yes, it supplies 5v to a pin on the drive.

It's possible to make yourself too. ;-)

Yes it does ;-)

I just tried it :-)

BTW, I made a mistake. The 5v to pin solution is for Sabre SATA, not Calypso. The one Starling states correctly is for Calypso.

wat can be done to the drive when it is in safe mode?

Re: Safe mode

u can fix firmware problems etc.

But u DO need proper tools (i.e. PC3000, Salvation etc)

Re: Safe mode

also it is used for fixing hdd with bad head for eg clicking drives .

Re: Safe mode

Is safe mode also called PCB mode?

Re: Safe mode

August 24th, 2007, 4:19

yep, in WD it is (Salvation products) (or "kernel" mode in PC3000)

Re: Safe mode

So you can make ROM changes in safe mode, but you can't make FW changes since FW changes involve writing to the SA and heads are disabled in safe mode. Is this correct?

Sorry about turning the topic slightly.

Thanks,

Andy
