6 block = Block 1 in H.D.D 1 , Block 2 in H.D.D 2, Parity 1,2 in H.D.D 3

Block 3,4 in H.D.D 1 , Block 3 in H.D.D 2 , Block 4 in H.D.D 3

Hi mehran,

get an old raid box with say three drives and an adaptec controller.

1. use hardware raid, create OS and then copy a large text file (1MB),
then study how this text file is written to the drives.

2. Use software raid W2000 and do the same as in 1..

3. Then try get an old HP / Compaq raid box and try the same as in 1. and 2.

Then you will have learnt a lot about RAID 5
and you will then know how to start to recover RAID 5 for some money.

Hello,

AFAIK each controller does it in its own way, so U have to find out the sequence, block size and offset values for your particular case.
