Seagate Barracuda IV [ST340016A] heat = not working

October 14th, 2006, 4:21

Hi!

I've got Seagate Barracuda IV [ST340016A] drive and noticed that when it reaches certain temperature it stops working. There is no way to make it work till it cools but still i have to take out power cable from it (its in xbox console), otherwise no communication.

So couple of questions abut this:
-Is this known problem?
-Which temperature is critical?
-And why it works _ONLY_ after removing power cable? Stores iin some kind of memory that it was overheated?
-Any solutions except blowing more air into it? :)

use a hdd cooling fan in order to avoid this problem and the hdd cannot store heat in its memory it has a special feature SMART that detects the temprature and turns off the hdd that is to save it from burning ..

I hope thats the answer to ur Question

Not quiet, the problem is only my barracuda iv acts like that :/
And the hdd isnt even hot, probably below 50. And I know about smart, just expected a bit more detailed info about this behaviour [any way to disable this], some doc's or sth :)
