i bought a HDD Seagate ST3160812AS but i don't know how to update the firmware; where i can find the new firmware and the utility for upgrade process;

yes, i think the drive needs a firmware update; my mainboard is with NF4 chipset ,i red in the forum this chipset hasa problems with this drive model , so the hdd may be neede a firmware update

If the firmware upgrade is really needed....
on manufacture's site ( Seagate)
must be given all that is need for that upgrade....

the firmware is a huge part of the hard drive and is very important to the drives operation. Only if you think it is completely nessecary and you have backed up any impotant data you may have should you change it, and even then you should follow gsimon advice and only use firmware supplied by Seagate.
