HI !
can somebody give a hint, what could be the problem if the drive has bad blocks at every 256 LBA sectors?
at first scan was at 0,256,512,768,1024
then after MHDD erase, no bad sectors, only many red and green blocks, spaced at multiple of 256 lba sectors ( ex: 8192, 8960, 9984 ... )
I hope you can understand my poor english.
thank you in advance

What sort of drive is it?
December 4th, 2006, 16:35
hmmmm... i am thinking
MHDD reads 256 blocks, and if 1 of them is bad..., thats why i get the 256 granularity.
the drive is MAXTOR 4K040H2
it has many weak sectors, and i would like to do a SELFSCAN to get rid of them, but dont know how to start it. So, i am playing whit it untill .... i learn something, and the questions will dissapear
thank you for your help

Have you tried running HDD Regenerator?
Works pretty well on Maxtors, I find.

I am a little skeptic in any hdd regenerator, but i will try it. The strange thing was that sequential reading was bad, but the butterfly reading was almost good ( sector access times ) . I am expecting more drives, then i can learn on them...
