Maxtor 6Y160P0 2 drive array failure

January 25th, 2007, 12:32

I have a failed slave drive in a two drive raid 0 array (ATA/133 Maxtor 160GB DiamondMax Plus 9). The goal has been established to recover the data on this drive. All dianostics lead to the head assembly as the failed component (personality module has been swapped from working drive). I am asking for the experts' opinion on the difficulty of swaping the platter assembly into a new (not refurbshed to ensure head configuration compatibility) drive? Which is easier (head assembly or platter), faster and with the highest (admittedly already very low) probability to accessing the stripped data on the volume? Thanks in advance for your help and advice. I am really under the gun on this one.

Moving the platters to another drive you will have 0% of success rate as it's more that one platter.

Exchanging MHA depends on your skills, but for what you've said, you don't have experience on that, so the chances are very very very low.
