Western Digital WD3200KS firmware problems

March 30th, 2007, 9:08

Hi all, I'm having problem with WD3200KS-00CPF0

The IC motor is damaged, so I try to resolder a new IC motor to the old PCB. But the drive just don't spin and recalibrate.

I suspect it's a PCB problem, so I swap the old ROM to the good PCB (new, functional) and it spins, but to my horror : it starts clicking...!

I managed to reconstruct the old PCB (using new IC motor and native ROM) and put it to the new HDD, it spins and the same : it's clicking....

To sum up I think it's something wrong with the Controller IC (Correct me if I'm wrong)
Anybody here have ever deal with the same problem ?? :(

Also it could be a firmware problem .

I have the same problem on WD3200KS combo chip burned after repair it , spin and knock, get same PCB donnor, do this tasks need it, and still the knocking sound after knock like 3 then show ERR ABRT?

This is Marvell Technology does any one know SA problem or head problem?

ERR ABRT some times its SA problem its this right for WD Marvell Tech?

Thank for all u answers

How to check ? I have not found any pins to short circuit. E19 and E26 check points are not available for this model....

Of course I'm in big question, will PC 3000 v2.7 (Russian version) be able to deal with this WD3200KS ? Cause AFAIK 2.27 English version does not support this one, or does it ?

Forget about HRT.....and....Salvation WD Solution...Those just don't work on this one...

Thanks, Sean, but I don't want to mess things up by dismantling the hard drive, unless I'm pretty sure that is the real problem.
I know it's very difficult to make sure about it. But with your broad experience, probably you can guide me about this one ?

Pheeww...I've already dismantled Seagate Baracuda 7200.10 500 GB two days ago, and to my surprise, it's almost impossible to do cylinders extraction and put them to a new working hard drive. The case is about bearing seizure and I'm very aware that the only possible solutions are : by heating the centre or (if I have guts to do it !) : grinding the caps of the bearing and put the special "grease" in.

None of those two I like. But what can I do ? :(

Truth : I just don't know for sure whether it's SA problem or MHA problem....
I have seen such problems are caused by SA (50% of cases) in WD Marvell. But how to fix ? I just don't know....
Probably @pcimage and @rameez or other member can give best solutions.
