Swapping heads, how close do I need to be?

April 1st, 2007, 3:48

I've got an IBM AVER series with a bad head stack, and I'm looking for a donor drive. How close do I have to come to the original drive? Do I have to match firmware, Part Number, date?

Yes u have to match all three from the donor drive :

1) Firmware
2) Part no
3) Date

Read the Table 1 on head stack article for more details about finding donor drives .

You sure about this? I've always matched P/N, country and MLC number.

Assuming the date is important, how close does it have to be? Same month? Within a few months? Same year?
