April 25th, 2007, 13:12

Hi all!

Got an interesting case here...

Hitachi DeathStar IC35L030AVV207-0....

Originally knocking/scraping, so concluded heads....

Swapped head (1)...

Spins up OK and calibrates..

But ID not read...

Found NVRAM corrupt..

Swapped PCB from 100% good donor..

Now ID's perfect, all SA modules check out OK....

BUT NO DATA :-( :-(

ALL sectors reporting as "AMN"

This from Universal utility surface check..

Set Max LBA............................. : No restriction
Attrib 5 has value (1) lower than treshold (5)
Write cache............................. : disabled

Test "Surface verification" started
Initial LBA............................. : 0
Final LBA............................... : 58 593 749
Verify by one command................... : 65535
Pass number............................. : 1
Verification method..................... : Regular
Save defects............................ : No
Pass.................................... : 1
ERROR! LBA : 0 Verification error 48-bit (AMN) (51/01)
ERROR! LBA : 1 Verification error 48-bit (AMN) (51/01)
Test "Surface verification" interrupted
Duration................................ : 12:00:25 AM

Tried original PCB back again and re-wote NVRAM, still same.

Run surface test from various random points, all the same, NONE read!!!

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

NVRAM in patient drive was corrupt.

Re-wrote from donor drive.

Worth re-writing from library?

Or how else to fix?

Or am I stuffed now?? :-(
