Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I have a WD Caviar WD2500.
I bought it a while ago to put in to an external enclosure.
Recently I tried to plug it in to use, and the Drive would not boot up.
It just beeps! Two electronic sounding beeps very close together and then about 2 seconds later it repeats over and over.
The drive makes no other sounds or functions. the platers are NOT spinnng up.
I tred it out in 3 other working enclosures and still no improvement.
I can not afford a recovery service. right now and the data is valuable.
Does anyone know what these sounds mean? is it possible that I could take the control board off the bottom of the drive and swap it out with another? ,even the same model?
or is this an indication of a more serious issue inside? PLEASE HELP!
any info I can get would be much apricated. thanx.

Sounds like either the spindle motor has seized, or the heads have become stuck to the platter.

Hi,
I recommend using this method only when U have nothing to lose if the HDD becomes irrevertably unrecoverable by means of some heads being torn off by the moment of the starting spindle.
If U cannot afford losing the entire data, the best is to look for a DR center.

pepe
