WD800BB-00FJA0 PCB required

May 30th, 2007, 7:06

Hi Guys,

Anyone got a PCB they can give/loan/sell me?

It's off a WD800BB-00FJAO, PCB p/n 2060-001130-012 Rev A

Nearest I have is a 2060-001130-010 Rev A from a WD800BB-32FJA0.

Unfortunately this does not work, as the Marvel chip is slightly different, so the masked ROM is not compatible. So I need the same board (Marvel is 88i5540-LFH GB60651)

Not to worry is ROM is different version, I can soon resolder that.

Cheers

Sean

Did you actually try to resolder ROM from bad one to donor?
It still should be compatible I believe.

Starling, thanks for your reply.

I did now obtain a PCB of same P/N but from 40Gb. Drive still seen as "Mammoth", 40GB and s/n "WDC-ROM XYZ--". So I transplanted ROM from original.

But I think ROM has been cooked too, as the donor board now does nothing, no spin up. I did notice underneath the rom there were four marks next to four of the pins on one side, so I'm guessing it's cooked :-(

But I do notice that the PCB from the same model is used, I can enter Marvel utility and read all SA modules OK. But drive is seen as"Mammoth" and serial number is seen as "WDC-ROM XYZ--" or something similar.

Suggestions?

Problem solved.

I feel a right idiot.

Although the original ROM looked cooked and didn't work on a PCB with same P/N, I tried it on a PCB from another WD800-BB with same model (but different PCB version), and it's working!

Don't know why I didn't think of it in the 1st place!

Sorry for wasting time guys!
