Is this really possible ? I cannot figure out how...

Interesting...
On Maxtors there is no DIR module you can modify to change location of the desired module as in WD for example...
Roadmap on Maxtors is hardcoded into code and I never seen someone change it. But that would be a useful thing to know...
Just asked Sergei from Acelab (developer of Maxtor utility), he doesn't know either.
wawalab, what forum this is from? Maybe there is some explanation there?

Starling
Imho there are such module and this can be done
June 8th, 2007, 15:52
I'm sure this can be done, but it's not that easy.
Do you have ideas?
June 8th, 2007, 16:13
Yes, you have to find the module, edit it to fit your purpose, save it back.
And write the module to its new UBA.
June 8th, 2007, 17:04
That's too easy.
The first thing I tried. There is no such module, there is no such table anywhere in Data group of modules.
Roadmap is HARDCODED into overlays and it's difficult to find it and it's even more difficult to modify correctly.

Yeah easy enought
Why you think it have to be in DATA ?

hi Starling its true
i found it in one chinese forum but without explain.
i found those UBA address like 525,426...store at module 4F,RAM, and LDR files. you can search them by hex use winhex or open those module to find, but i cannt realize it. so, Samo ,do you have ideas?
thanks in advance

The idea work quite well. You miss something probably.

Hi Samo
I changed the location of the DISK module in 4F, it had no effect of drive initialisation. But in the utility it showed the new location which I have not written a correct DISK module intentionaly to see the effect.
Drives can work in normal mode even if these ovly modules (withing 4F) are damaged, so the solution should be somewhere else, I must agree with Starling, but I would welcome any hint of course

pepe

Hi Pepe,
to be 100% honest you are right! The drive can work even some parts of the 4Fh module(s) is not functional. That 4Fh hold a table of the occupation of SA modules and groups. Same that is outputed by ACE, HRT.... That table can be easily manipulated to receive the desired effect, i.e. the pictures on the top.

But the modules isn't dependent of the occupation written within. At least that one responsible for drive operation. Something more, the mod 4Fh seens to have much more relation to the selfscan tests, status....
- Code:
Selftest FAILED; SELFTEST DONE......
but this of course it is only my oppinion!
As far as we interest more of DR I must confess that I can only suppose where those table/s(if they are tables at all) are.

to change the address of the module u will have to find a module or a part of the firmware that has the addresses of all the modules stored in the SA .
