Hitachi firmware upgrade - problem

I have Hitachi TravelStar IC25N060ATMR04-0 drive
I download and burn this: http://hddguru.com/content/en/software/ ... le-CD-ISO/
but this doesn`t work propertly

I haven`t ThinkPad

What can I do?

Maybe some trick or alternative soft?

I assume your poblem is that th drive is limited to 8Gb?

Could be HPA cut (use MHDD to fix back to max LBA), or F/W corruption.

If it's F/w corruption, then I don't think the f/w "update" program will work. It only updates, not fixes. I bet it will only update a handfull of modules, not the full f/w.

Now program stopped when chech SMART status

I read @ another forum, firmware upgrade can (but not must) erase SMART attributes and i want to chech it myself

Drive is very slow and have much bad sectors - i have nothing to loose

Other erasers (like WDCLEAD, MHDD, Victoria etc.) not erase drive like i want

Only i want is upgrade firmware in my drive. Other help is not necessary.

Well, you'll never get it to erase until you get it recognised as the full 60Gb.

IMHO you have more problems than a few bad sectors.

The SMART has failed for a reason, coupled with the fact it's only seen as 60Gb, it doesn't look good.

Have you actually tried to reset the HPA with MHDD?

Something reminds me another topic when a guy was just needed a maxtor firmware upgrade and nothing else... :lol:

U need special tools for access vendor tracks, like ace lab products, the another way its make your own tools

Look at Hitachi tool. It says current capacity = 8063.51Mb which is ~ 8Gb

Trust me, from the evidence you give you have more problems than a simple reset smart and erase will fix ;-)

Maybe you can try "HDD Repair 2.0" to reset the SMART, but I doubt it will do you any good.

I know it seems a shame to waste a 60Gb drive, but unless you have lots of spare time on your hands, then bin it!

hdd repair 2.0 does not work on laptop drives

Tool see only 8GB because drive is not detect on BIOS!
I connect HDD to old i440LX mobo with P3 333MHz (32GB limit)
When i connect it to Promise Ultra100 TX2 controller, drive is normal detect as 60GB.

I repeat: I want only to reset smart attributes and i want to upgrade firmware.
I haven`t hardware PC3000, only emulator for DOS, but it`s don`t support this drive

Some ideas?
