Maxtor "The Evil drive"
The name says it all MAXTOR = MAXimum TORment

Great physical pain or mental anguish.
A source of harassment, annoyance, or pain.
If one of this drive Diamond Max or Maxline has spindle absolutely seized, and there are more than 2 platters..there is no where in the world the data could be recovered. You are very lucky if the spindle still can be moved around, but if the spindle is jammed completely, one thing is to pray for a miracle and do platters and head exchange.
Spindle seized causes a "Laser Gun" noise emitted from the voice coil through the head....someone called it "singing maxtor", i called it "Doomsday Evil Scream"
The evil side is the spindle itself is perfectly balanced like a lead weight in your car tyres. Balancing the wheel when spinning.
Any shift/misallignment which normally do when platter exchange will caused an inbalanced no matter what you do. If someone has succeeded in recovering the data from 100% jammed spindle that is probably pure luck.
That's my opinion, anyone have any comments/suggestions... welcome.

I think you 100% right. not possible to get it going after jam...... i thought i was the only one .... now feel ok...

Ok, first of all, Maxtor's are not the only ones that can have seized motors, they all do.... you drop any drive with a fluid bearing and it will seize up.
2nd - if you think about it... it can be a very easy recovery, most of the time the heads are still good, no damage to the platters and the PCB is still good...
You just have to figure out how to get the platters aligned and spinning again.
If a company spends lots of $$$ to figure this out, they are not going to give this secret out.
My point was - it is not impossible and I was trying to give hope to someone out there who thinks their data is lost forever.
