Hi
I bought a new Maxter 80GB HDD
I didn't have a SATA power supply so i connected the HADD through a convertion cable to SATA power port
Once I swithed on the computer ...a sound came from the brand new HADD with a smoke...that was the end of it
Still dont know what happen,
Im scared to plug a new HADD since it may also burn like the first one
Please advice what to do ??

I would test the converter on an older SATA drive that you can afford to loose. I would also double check the connections and make sure they are properly connected. If it were my drive, I would probably use a new converter. If you smoked the old drive there is a good chance you also killed the converter.
