I have a MaXLine Plus II 250 GB YAR41BW0 drive that PI believe has a bad preamp. I fried a donors board. My question is, will I be able to replace the preamp or will I have to replace the entire head stack.
Thanks, for your help,
Ben

I don't know what YOU would have to do, but personally I would NOT try to replace the preamp because of the difficulties of handling the stack & soldering under a microscope, not ruining the flexible circuit traces, etc.
Good luck.

ok, I went ahead and did a head stack replacement. Unfortunately it didn't work. I had an identical donor and I thought it went without a hitch but when I power the drive on it clicks lightly once, waits a couple seconds, and then clicks loudly and continuously. Can anyone tell me what this means?
Any help will really be appreciated.

Put head stack back into donor and if the donor clicks then you've damaged the heads. If it works OK then the heads are incompatible.
