Problem with IC25N040ATMR04-0

August 13th, 2007, 8:35

I have a Hitachi Travelstar Model IC25N040ATMR04-0 that I was using as an extrenal usb hard disk drive. It was working perfectly fine till today. When I plug it into the USB, it gives the red light first and then it turns to light green. The task bar shows that a USB is connected the system but My computer doesn't show the drive.

Please help me and tell me how can I recover my data?

Thanks
Hasan Saleem

First of all, remove the hard drive from the box and connect it directly to a computer and see the results.

What happens when you connect the drive to a computer? Do you ear any strange sound?

Listen to the drive. Is it spinning? Power On/Off and listen close

When I connect it to the computer, the disc goes light green straight away when it should be blinking red (as my other discs do)

The taskbar shows a little green arrow that means something is connected to the system but when I open My computer, I don't see any disks at all there..

I have checked the sounds on this disk and others (working fine) - They have the same sound. It spins inside

Check if it spins up or not first of all.

It definitely spins as I have written earlier.

OK.
Then you can check surface in MHDD to see if it's readable at all.

How to do that?

Read the documentation, download MHDD and do that.
If your time is so expensive that you can't afford to follow the link and read the manual then it's probably better to send it directly to DR company and they'll do it for you.

I would do that right now and see if it works... But software's would work only if the disk is accessible

It shows as if it is connected to the system but then there is no drive..

You could also try Victoria which runs through Windows, no need to remove hard disk from the USB caddy either.
