Hi Mates ,
I got 65 Quantum drives from some chap for Rs :60 each .Most of these drives are ok and need some normal logical scanning and i just need to put the found defects in p or g list .I am using PC-3000 ISA for This .My Problem is that i have no manuals for quantum .Although being a old user of ISA i can figure out something .Can someone suggest the following
1 :A PM With English Manual
2 :How to disable heads in this drive series.I Have a 40 gig and its head no 3 is virtually gone sooo many Bad Sectors [ How can i disable that ]
Your Fast Response Would Be Appreciated

hi rameez,
i am on the prowl for these drives and doing good.i am reading + actually doing + experimenting

Rameez ,
I Have Gone Through the Manual Exhaustively .I am now in experimentation mode .I tried To selfscan The As series on two drives and it failed .Now i am experimenting zone disabling in the drives .The issue is that if i disable a particular zone in the as series the AS series will also allow me to select the head were i want to disable the zone .Now if i select a particular head and mark one zone bad the servo test never seems to complete .Now i am experimenting on a formula that is is i disable a zone i am gonna disable all heads for that zone .In some series of quantum drives if you disable a zone all heads in that zone also are disabled .Still experimenting

Rameez ,
One More Question .Do i need To Tinker Around The LBA Also After Zone Disabling .Also i have a observation to make if for example the defect table is cleaned and i start a servo scan .Is different every time Why ? .Is there a heat issue

After u disable a pirticular zone for a drive the capacity changes on its own one more thing u have to clean defect tables after disabling zones dont use servo test to check the drive use Victoria instead if u get a defect use write erasing option to remove them if they dont go calculate zone for that drive and disable it again and repeat process untill 100% hdd scanned .

Hi Rameez ,
i have very very imteresting post on this .The drive in question is a 40 gb Quantum AS .Now before i started the job i figured out that zone 12 on head 2 was defective .I disabled that .The Utility automatically deletes the defect table after that .But i could not check as you said it automatically sets the lba also to match the capacity .Then i started the Servo test it passed head 0,1 and head 2 and also passed the zone on head 2 that i disabled but after it passed the head the servo testing could not go any further and started doing gaarrr gaaarrr .I thought that i need to disable zone 12 on all the heads. It again deleted the defect tables and again i did the servo test .It did the same thing on head 2 .It passed head 0 and 1 in flying colours like before .Then i though lets disable zone 11 and zone 13 on head 2 as that area also might be bad .But again same thing happened .Then i restored zones that i had disabled in head 0,1 and 3 and kept zone 11,12,13 disabled in head 2 .Still Same .If i press esc key when it gets stuck in zones end on head 2 it moves further and does the same thing with head 3 at same location .Man something is wrong somewhere i have tried all means and options on this one .And one more thing i am not going to give up i will make this damn thing work 100000% .
I never give up easily ....

I suggest to leave those drive along for couple weeks and look again. Some times problems easily returns. More interesting to start SS on them. You could get really clean and good drive after.

Quantum AS ? in which " the effect of a rolling metal ball" because of the dying preamp ? with sagging smart.attribute 195(?) ?
November 12th, 2015, 12:15
As you can see it's look like TS is talking definitely not about drives with dead preamp.
November 12th, 2015, 13:28
4 out of 5 were dying preamp. Nikimi massively repaired them with the SS, but it did not help.
November 12th, 2015, 14:15
Yes, dead preamp is most common problem on ASes
