Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi All,
I have a Toshia MK1032GSX 2.5" SATA Disk. When you apply power to the disk the disk clicks and makes a beeping sound. If you power it off, then power it on holding the disk upside down or at another position the symptoms may be less/more severe.
Before i go ahead and order another disk to swap the heads, does anybody think it may be something other than a head problem?
i.e will a head swap fix my problem in most cases like this?
Any suggestions would be most helpful.

could be bearing. but head problem is also common on these
apart from the beeping sound, does the spindle sound OK?
i.e. no rattling or other untoward noise?

The drive sounds like it's spinning normally but it makes a clicking and beeping sound every now and again, sounds rather violent!
If it is a bearing problem, what's the solution? Platter swap into another working disk?

Hello zed, yes that's correct...platter swapping.

Thanks, i tried that and it was pretty simple with this model disk. It worked well - the disk worked for a few hours then crashed again, it was enough time to clone it using copyr. Thanks!

For a change, it went smoothly and without any instability - the drive imaged fast and without errors or odd sounds. Thanks for your help again.
