Hot swap a wd1600jb with a wd2000jb?

September 10th, 2007, 2:41

Hi Everyone,

I have a wd1600jb-00eva0 with a damaged critical firmare module preventing me from accessing the data. I know its bad becuase all the rest of the sa reads fine except one critical one. It reports ready after shorting and pc3k reads it correctly. SA format does not work and both copys are damaged. So I figured a hot swap would be the only fix. I found a wd2000-00eva0 with a close date code. I tried a hot swap by changing the head map to that of the 160 but its almost like it wont read anything from head 3. Data extractor reads really really really really slow but it errors on any data on head 3 after the hot swap. It would take a year to extract the data at this pace. At least I think its erroring on head 3. Below is how it was before I changed the head map. I have removed head 5 from the p-list, cleared the g-list, regenerated translator with p-list, and formatted to the lba of the 160. Format goes for an hour and shows an error. Any ideas would be greatly apreciated. Thanks.
