If the heads touch each other are they toast?

Not always Cobra.
If you can separate them easily, then there is mostly no problem.
But if the heads stick together so you have to separate them with force, then they are unuseable thereafter.

I was working on a Toshiba 2 platter drive. I don't think they stuck together. But after reading some here on the forum it seemed that it would be bad if they did.
I got the drive back together, but it doesn't pull up. I don't think I got the platters aligned right. Either way it's toast I am afraid.

I have had Toshiba heads touch without any problems.
However, with Fujitsu it seems like certain death. It's best to always take steps to keep them separated, just in case . . .

How abaout for Maxtor ???
