Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi All,
I have a Hitachi 2.5" Hard disk, this model disk is not listed in the PC-3000 Manual showing the location to set the probes to reset the ATA Password. AFF Drive Repair software cannot unlock this model disk.
Does anybody know where the probes supplied by AceLabs need to be set to unlock this model disk. See below a photo of the PCB.
The Drive's is a 60 GB 2.5" Hitatchi HTS541060G9AT00.
Any information you can suggest would be most helpful. Thanks!

UDMA version claims to be able to unlock this drive,
but cause I did not buy this cr#p I can't say if it works.
no probe for this one and Hitachi f#c$s nicely with different drive
types security feature and vc and nvram.
Anyway, UDMA version don't support any Hitachi drive after this model,
so owners must wait until summer of next year for some updates cause
aunty asya don't get new drives till they about three years old.
you can ask someone like doomer cause I think they can unlock this drive.

I only have PC-3000 PCI for Windows. No UDMA yet. Any other ideas? Using the 'Hitatchi' option it does not give an option to read the firmware but it can use the unlock feature, it asks me to set the probe to the correct position but i do not know where this probe should go for this model disk. any pointers?

Hi zed,
probe, which is not used for your drive, is one part of unlocking some Hitachi.
After using probe program also needs vc for drive type and cause PCI version
don't have vc for HTS5410xxxG9 it can't open "closed part" of firmware to modify
some security sectors.
So, even if you found some pin locations for some probe type you would never
unlock HTS541xxxM9 cause PCI version don't have vc for your drive.
So anyway, even if you have UDMA version, you can't unlock any Hitach models
after HTS541xxxG9 cause vc is again changed for later models.
And ACE is going to make to sweat some few summers for updates.
For Hitachi mobile drives, my experience is over 95% errors is heads, pcb or security.
so buying UDMA version is almost useless for Hitachi drives now.
btw. ACE promised to update PCI version with HTS541xxxG9 during early 2006.
they never kept their undertaking and basically this update for HTS541xxxG9 drive
is all that they added to UDMA version for Hitachi mobile.

Thanks, my only bet now us use MHDD and try to ask the owner for the password. They have provided 5 possible passwords but MHDD's DISPWD tool cannot unlock this drive with the passwords provided.
