Seagate "number of heads"

October 1st, 2007, 6:33

I am very confused. The article http://hddguru.com/content/en/articles/ ... k-Q-and-A/ says "The third symbol of the serial number represents the quantity of installed and being used heads". What does this mean? What if the 3rd symbol is M?
