Location of Fuse for Hitatchi 3.5" HDD?

October 4th, 2007, 4:18

Hi All,

I have 2x Hitachi HDDs

Model: HDT722525DLAT80.
250 GB

I suspect the controller may have a blown fuse as when power is applied there is no power at all going to the PCB, the multimetre i am using shows 0V on the power connector. The good PCB i have had 12V an 5V on the outside pins on the same connector. I swapped the PCBs and the faulty hdd killed my good drive's PCB, now both have the same problem.

I have the PC-3000 manual but i cannot find the fuse location for this. I know where it is for Seagate, Maxtor and toshiba hdds but not Hitachi desktop disks.

See below a scanned copy of the PCB.

Thanks for any help.

Hi, There is no fuse on those drives.
And if your drive did brake the other pcb, the fault is probably in the preamp inside the drive.

Hi,

I don't know about fuse on this model, check R5 near the connector.
BTW it is kind of strange there is no voltage on the connector itself. That could only mean the PCB is shorted and it is blocking the power supply.

Thanks for the replies.

Pepe - where is the best place to look for a short on this type of pcb? I know where to look for seagate and maxtor but not on this board.

Hi,

I wouldn't advise U to repair this PCB, but rather to swap NVRAM to a good board and hope the FW versions will not collide.
But anyway U will have to replace the MHA in the HDA first.
