HDD repair, change heads

October 6th, 2007, 4:46

hi all,

I just change heads unit on my Hitachi 40Gb 4200rpm notebook hdd because originally has one head dead. But now everithing hardware is ok (SMART ok, and other tests from manufacturer diagnostic software) but all cylinders are reported as wrong data :( and advise my to recover them or erase... :) Of course, nothing is wrong and I need my data from crashed hdd...

I presume the new head unit needs other servo info in order to correctlly find tracks on disk and if so, how can I do that ? Exist some software can re-align the heads to match my old disk with data ?

Thanks in advance,
BTW. Great software MHDD, I'm surprised !
