WD MARVELL HEAD MAPPING PROBLEM

November 9th, 2007, 16:21

Hi guys,

I have WD800BB-55JKA0 (Sabre53) drive with head #1 going to die. I just want to switch off this head in PC3K, but once head is switched off, when I try to format it completes as soon as it started (there is a while for translator regeneration, then completed (but no real action on format).

Do you have any idea? So far I didn't switched off heads in Marvell Utility.

I do steps: Head mapping switch of #1 --> Delete p-list defects for #1, then edit HDD ID and put 1/2 max original LBA.

Is it something I have missed?

If there is anyone who can give me advice how to resolve this problem I would be glad.

Regards
Damon

I have never done head disabling on marvell drives but if it was the WD drive u have missed the translator deactivation part .
Also dont Regenrate translator after head deactivation .
