Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I have a Seagate ST500630A 500GB IDE drive that is making the noise in the attached sound file. (it won't upload! - but it's a repetitive access noise - not
unlike a click, but not really a click) And the drive will not identify or initialize in Windows.
The firmware is: 3.AAE Date Code: 07497 Site Code: TK
Is the problem in the controller board? If so, does the firmware code need to be matched? Matched exactly?
A local supplier has many of these in stock, so I'd like to know what to ask them for.
Thanks!

Okay, this might help: I replaced the controller board with one that matches the P/N and F/W exactly, and the drive makes the same repetitive-access-fail sound, with no initialization as all- it just stays "Busy".
This forum does not accept ,mp3 files, so I put the sound file at this url:
http://www.quikpro.ca/seagate.mp3Next step anyone?
TIA!

Could you solve your problem?
I have a Seagate HDD that is making the same noise after I had installed it in an IcyBox (external USB housing).
