Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I have a Emc SAN I need to recover .
it contains 9 Maxtor 250 gb Sata drives ,
5 drives for 1 raid 5, 3drives for another raid 5,
and 1 Hotspare .
I have imaged all of the drives (twice)
Through much study and hair-pulling I have discovered
that the controller treats the drives as having 520 bytes per sector.
Actually the drives being standard sata contain 512 bytes per sector.
This throws the sector boundries off and grows 8 bytes per sector.
So here is my dilema : for every 520 bytes on the drive there
are 8 bytes that I need to discard .
I can't destripe the raid until I get the sectors properly aligned.
Is there software available that will either :
Emulate Fiber Channel Drives.
Or Allow me to read the images , then rewrite the images back
discarding the last 8 bytes of every 520 bytes , so as to
align the sectors .
Or anyone have any other suggestions on how to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance
Steve
