WD2500JB-00REA0 only reconized in device management

December 3rd, 2007, 10:34

Hi,

I have a WD2500JB-00REA0 hdd which was inside an external box : Memup Kwest.

It didn't reconized anymore in disk management, only in device management.

I plugged it on IDE and i have the same pb.

It is reconized in bios but all diagnostic tool i tried can't read any sectors ! All appairs to be bad (HDtune, HDD scan,DFT Hitachi, MHDD, HDAT, DLG DIag). There is no failure sounds.

I found exactly the same drive and try to swap PCB : it didn't work, drive isn't reconized in bios.

My PCB:
on paper: 2060-701292-C00
on PCB: 2060-701292-002

PCB with worked HDD:
on paper: 2060-701292-C00
on PCB: 2060-701292-001

I swap U12 firmware from my PCB to new PCB and plug this new PCB on my HDD : It works :) ...but ;) ......:

I have the same pb: HDD is only listed in bios and device manager , not in disk manager, so i can't read partition from it :(

Now i'm sure the pb isn't on my PCB, except the firmware, maybe it can be corrupted ?

Can you help me, i would like recover my data : a lot of pictures from many years :(

Can i test, read, update the firmware ?
What pb could it be ?

Thank you very much

See you later

Hi Nonob,

I think it is an SA problem.
That can only be solved with expensive tools and a lot of knowledge.

I think you best bring this disk to a professional data recovery company.

Best regards,

dobre

you have a problem with the service area of your hard drive ( the boot code) so it doesn't know where any of the sectors are. Do a search on this site and there are a lot of explanations for it.

What kind of errors do you get in MHDD and HDDScan when trying to scan the user area(for example: ABRT, IDNF, UNC...)?

Hi :)

What kind of errors do you get in MHDD and HDDScan when trying to scan the user area(for example: ABRT, IDNF, UNC...)?

I don't found how to scan "abrt" "idnf" or "unc" but when i do a scan from LBA0 to max ,

with MHDD, i have that :

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ..Etc....

I don't know if it is important But i can change max lba.

With HDDscan, under windows :

I have BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB..etc...

But i saw something maybe important, i compared scan (verify or read) of My system HDD and scan of my "bad" HDD :

The difference is that the number "current LBA" change with my good HDD (increase) but NOT with my bad HDD,
but the bitrate KBytes/s is changing with the 2 HDD.

Maybe a tracking pb ?

Thank you

! - is ABRT error and it could mean either firmware or head problem. But it's definitely not a PCB issue and it's not something you can fix on your own, sorry. You need to have someone with PC3000 or Salvation data to check the firmware.
