Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi,
I accidentally dropped my Hitachi 80 GB IDE Laptop drive, which I have been using as external drive using USB. After the drop
it seems to be firing up but after making numerous CLICK sounds its goes mum. In device manager, it shows 'Generic USB Mass Storage Device' but no disk drives appear in My Computer.
I have tried HDDSCAN which also does show 'Generic USB Mass Storage Device' in dropdown but no other information (except some #@@$$ signs) is shown. Upon clicking 'Start' nothing appears to be happening.
The data is quite important to me. Is there anything I could do about it? I am planning to make her stay in the freezer tonight but really doubt its results.
Please let me know my options since real known experts are quite far from my place. Thanks in advance.

Hi Mandster,
In my opinion, heads are damaged by the fall.
No way in recovering this without the proper tools and changing heads.
Dont let this drive click too long, because that could eventually damage the platters also and make recovery impossible.
Where are you located ? I'm sure one of the guru's here will be close enough to help you out.
Best regards,
Dobre

Hi dobrevjetser,
Thanks for your reply. I am in Jalandhar, a city in Northern India. It will be great if someone nearby would be
able to assist. Thanks.
